How to Find Jobs in South Africa in 2026

A practical, step-by-step method for finding real vacancies in South Africa — where to search, how often, and what actually gets you shortlisted.

Search where the vacancies actually are

South African vacancies are scattered across employer career pages, recruitment agencies, government bulletins and aggregators. Searching one source is the most common reason capable candidates see very little.

Aggregated boards pull thousands of live South African roles into one search, which is why New Phase Hub aggregates listings rather than asking you to visit each employer.

Search by role and by province

Search the job title you want, then repeat the search by location: Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Gqeberha, Bloemfontein. Provincial searches such as Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Western Cape and Eastern Cape surface roles that title searches miss.

Save the two or three searches that consistently return relevant results and repeat them weekly rather than starting fresh each time.

Apply to fewer roles, properly

Twenty tailored applications outperform two hundred generic ones. Mirror the wording of the advert in your CV summary, and address the specific requirements listed under minimum qualifications.

If an advert lists a reference number, use it exactly. Public sector applications are frequently discarded for missing reference numbers or unsigned Z83 forms.

Fix the CV before you scale up

Most rejections happen at screening. Run your CV through a free analysis first, correct the structure and keywords, then apply at volume.

Track every application with the date, role and contact so follow-ups are specific rather than apologetic.
