The 2026 CV That Actually Lands Interviews in South Africa
ATS-friendly formatting, keyword strategy and the SA-specific sections most CVs are missing.
Write for the scanner first, the human second
Most medium and large South African employers screen with an applicant tracking system. Use a single-column layout, standard headings, no text boxes, no tables, no logos, and save as PDF unless a Word file is requested.
Fancy templates lose information the moment they are parsed.
Mirror the advert's language
If the advert says 'management accounts', do not write 'financial reporting'. Pull ten to fifteen exact terms from the job spec and place them naturally in your summary, skills list and role bullets.
Bullets that show results
Use the pattern: action verb + what you did + measurable outcome. 'Reduced month-end close from 12 to 5 days by automating reconciliations' beats 'responsible for month-end'.
Three to five bullets per role is enough. Older roles get one line.
South African specifics
Include your city and province, notice period, driver's licence if the role needs it, professional registrations (SAICA, ECSA, SACAP, HPCSA, SANC), and relevant NQF levels.
Do not include your ID number, photograph, marital status or religion — they invite bias and add no value.
Then test it
